TEXARKANA REGIONAL CENTER ON AGING

 

 

The TRCOA is a partnership of: Donald W. Reynolds Center on Aging, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, AHEC-SW, and CHRISTUS St. Michael. The Center on Aging provides clinical, rehabilitation and educational services for Senior Adults.

, M.D. Director, Tom Alston, M.D. Medical Director and Amyleigh Overton-McCoy, MNSc, RN, GNP, Director of Education, provide specialized geriatric services for senior adults at CHRISTUS St. Michael Senior Health Center. The clinic offers specialized care for patients experiencing Alzheimer's disease, memory problems, osteoporosis, or mobility problems. It also offers geriatric rehabilitation and personal fitness programs to promote functional independence. To create a continuum of care for patients the clinic geriatric provides consult services for local physicians and partnerships with home health agencies and nursing homes.

The TRCOA educational component is located at AHEC-SW. However, services are offered throughout the following counties: *Bowie, *Clark, *Hempstead, *Howard, *Lafayette, *Little River, *Miller, *Nevada, *Pike, and *Sevier. These services include educational programs for older adults and their families, such as consultation services related to home health. Educational services address older adult's issues in the community. The educational programs also include continuing education offerings in geriatric care for health professionals in the area and educational opportunities for health care students. The
TRCOA is committed to providing comprehensive health education, patient care, and coordination of services through a multidisciplinary team of professionals specializing in the care of older adults in all stages of health. The goal is to empower older persons to improve their own health and teach health care providers of the unique needs of older people and how they can be met.
